Kweyol Bod La Me which went into its ninth year on Sunday had to be called off when a fight broke out after one man with a bike decided that he was going to smoke the area using the tire of his bike. Disappointed Kweyol Bod La Me organizer Evadney St Ville says while the event includes performances of live bands it is also an event to help market the island. She says more police officers need to be deployed at event such as these. “Unfortunately about quarter to 12, this one guy tried to hijack the event by coming in with his motorcycle in a no entry restricted area, burning tires while the cultural group was on stage. At the time of the incident, there were no police officers present and that is what upset me the most. Here it is that the teenagers and others are trying to enjoy themselves and one guy decided to come and hijack the event and no police. It is shameful. I called the police for assistance and they didn’t come on time. I think that guy should be ashamed of himself. To the persons who got injured, I am sorry. The police failed us at the event and the patrons. Even when they were there, it was unfortunate that they allowed the young officers who just graduated to do the job,” she explained. She says this incident was a major setback for both the vendors and patrons. However St. Ville who has already started planning for next year says the 10th edition will be bigger and better.
