NIAN Abidi scored an unbeaten 81 to guide Pakistan Women to a five-wicket win over the West Indies Women in a warm-up match at Grace Road in Leicester yesterday.Set 247 to win, Abidi and Bismah Maroof (75) mounted a 141-run fourth-wicket partnership that rescued Pakistan from 68 for 3. Abidi struck eight fours in her 86-ball match-winning innings as Pakistan eased to 249 for 5 with two overs and two balls to spare.Maroof hit nine fours in her knock that lasted 80 balls as she and Abidi repaired the early damage caused by Shamilia Connell and captain Stafanie Taylor, who each took a wicket as Pakistan stumbled to 63 for 3 after 16.5 overs.Connell returned figures of 2 for 39 and Taylor 1 for 29. They were the only wicket-takers for the West Indies who struggled to make further inroads after their early success.Earlier, a half-century from opener Felicia Walters and solid knocks from Merissa Aguilleira and Deandra Dottin helped the West Indies women to 246 for 7.Walters scored a 93-ball 59 that included nine fours as she and Hayley Matthews, who scored 32, put on an opening stand of 49 before Matthews was run-out. The West Indies middle order struggled with captain Taylor (14) and Chadean Nation (7) failing to build on the solid start.However, Dottin smashed five fours in a 26-ball 32 to prop up the Caribbean side. Aguilleira scored a patient 43 off 50 balls to help propel the West Indies to a strong finish.The veteran Trinidadian in partnership with Afy Fletcher (18) and Shanel Daley 24 not out from just 12 balls carried the West Indies from 170 for 5 to 247 for 7.Bowling for Pakistan, Sana Mir picked up 2 for 46 while there was a wicket each for Asmavia Iqbal, Kaniat Imtiaz and Sadia Yousuf.The West Indies are yet to win a match as they continue preparations for their World Cup campaign.
