Trojans end home schedule with win over Arizona

MEN’S BASKETBALL All five senior starters scored as the USC women’s basketball team defeated Arizona 66-42 Saturday in the Trojans’ final home game of the regular season at Galen Center. Guard Shay Murphy led with 16points and eight rebounds in 26minutes of play. Murphy, Chloe Kerr, Jamie Hagiya, Allison Jaskowiak and Jamie Funn combined for 41 points. Sophomore Nadia Parker came one rebound away from her first career double-double with 14 points and a career-high nine rebounds for USC (16-10 overall, 10-6 Pac-10). Ashley Whisonant got 10 points and was the only player to finish in double figures for Arizona (10-19, 4-13). center_img Pepperdine 95, LMU 88: Chase Griffin scored 32 points as the Waves (7-21 overall, 3-9 WCC) defeated the Lions (12-16, 4-8) at Firestone Fieldhouse to sweep the two-game season series. Pepperdine trailed 37-35 at halftime but went on a 17-2 run to take a 52-39 lead and control of the game. LMU rallied to get to within three points, but the Waves responded by building the lead to 17, 77-60, with 5:54 left. BASEBALL UCLA 9, East Carolina 7: Shortstop Brandon Crawford drove in five runs, including a grand slam in the eighth inning that gave the Bruins (5-4) the victory over the Pirates (2-3) at Jackie Robinson Stadium. UCLA trailed 7-5 when Crawford hit his grand slam to give the Bruins the lead. Washington St. 12, CSUN 10: Shortstop Jason Dabbs went 5 for 5 and drove in four runs for the Matadors (8-5) in the nonconference loss at Matador Field. Ryan Krauser, Jared Prince and Greg Lagreid each drove in two runs for Washington State (1-1). CSUN rallied from a 12-4 deficit with six runs in the final two innings and had the tying run at the plate in the bottom of the ninth, but C.J. Belanger grounded out to end the game. Pepperdine 10, Wichita State 2: Shortstop Danny Worth and designated hitter Eric Thames each had three hits and three RBIs to lead the Waves (7-2) to the victory over the Shockers (0-2) at Malibu. USC 5, San Diego St. 4: The Trojans (7-4) scored three runs in the top of the ninth, capped by first baseman J.J. Owen’s sacrifice fly, to rally for the win over the Aztecs (5-4). Owen had three RBIs for USC. SOFTBALL Oregon State 6, CSUN 1: Amanda Peek went 2 for 4 with her third home run of the season for the Matadors (2-5-1) in the loss to the Beavers (6-2). MEN’S VOLLEYBALL Pepperdine 3, BYU 0: Paul Carroll had 14 kills as the No. 2-ranked Waves (11-1 overall, 9-1 MPSF) defeated the top-ranked Cougars (9-4, 5-3) for the second time in three days. J.D. Schleppenbach added nine kills and Greg Gaudino had seven for Pepperdine, which extended its winning streak to eight in a row. MEN’S TENNIS Georgia 4, Pepperdine 0: In a rematch of last season’s title match of the ITA Indoors and NCAA Championships, the 10th-ranked Waves (7-2) fell to No. 1 Georgia (6-0) in the quarterfinals of the ITA National Team Indoor Championships at Chicago. Pepperdine will face Mississippi today in a consolation match. UCLA 4, Illinois 2: Ben Kohlloeffel, Philipp Gruendler, Chris Surapol and Michael Look each won singles matches for the Bruins (7-1), who advance to the semifinals of the ITA National Team Indoor Championships at Chicago.
