Mahendra Singh Dhoni recovering well after suffering muscle spasm

first_imgThere was good news in store for Indian cricket after it emerged that limited-overs skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni was recovering well from a muscle spasm he suffered during a training session in Fatullah yesterday .India are in Bangladesh for the Asia Cup T20 and start their campaign against the hosts tomorrow. Gujarat wicketkeeper-batsman Parthiv Patel has been included in the side as Dhoni’s back-up.Dhoni was present at the trophy unveiling today while his deputy Virat Kohli addressed the media on the eve of India’s opening encounter. (Dhoni loses cool over retirement query )The Indian team management was however guarded when asked about Dhoni’s chances of playing on Wednesday.”He (Dhoni) has been recovering well but we will assess his fitness ahead of the match tomorrow,” said Team India manager Nishant Arora.If Dhoni does miss the opening match, it will mean a big change in plans for India. His replacement Patel is an opener while Dhoni is an accomplished finisher.”MS is a pillar for us in the middle-order. If Parthiv comes in, we will have to make plans for the batting order,” Kohli said. But Bangladesh skipper Mashrafe Mortaza said India’s batting line-up was so strong that their charismatic skipper would not really be missed.”Dhoni has been a tremendous player but with the batting order that they have they will not miss him so much.” Dhoni was among the busiest cricketers in the world till he retired from Tests in December 2014. However, he has hardly had any break from the other two formats and has led the team in all their 11 international matches so far this year.advertisementlast_img
